World wake surf vice champion Dominic Lagacé from Canada came surfed and won. Intense surf action on the lake, hot party beats and participants with big names: This year’s Wake Surf Festival by the idyllic Walensee had much going for once more.
Riders as well as visitors proved once more that surfing is not only a sport but also a life style. Despite winter temperatures and bad luck with rain and clouds the riders entered the chilly lake with their surfboards and showed the crowd their best tricks and moves.
Canadian wake surf pro Dominic Lagacé wowed the crowd.
One of the many highlights was the participation of the second ranked of last year’s world wake surfing championships. Dominic Lagacé flew in from Canada and thrilled the pleasant wake surf pro judges with his skills straight from the start. Lagacé and Martin Suter, Swiss champion and last year’s contest winner delivered a neck and neck race on the water. With a phenomenal run the Canadian finally captured his victory and sent the Swiss champion to the second rank.
Saturday was also an action day for the best girl riders who fought for points in the qualifications and semi finals. In the end the vice word champion Rebecca Ort made it with two great sessions. The second ranked Liza Vögeli convinced the judges with her clean 720ies but could not beat Ort by a few points.
Due to unfavorable conditions and thus safety issues on Saturday afternoon the finals could not take place. The best two runs of the qualification respectively the semi finals were rated instead.
Hot beats at the after party.
The Wake Surf Festival is not only a guarantee for hot surfing action on the water but also comes up with top bands and the best DJs every year for musical entertainment. Despite cold temperatures the party people came in flocks and couldn’t wait for the concert to begin. The hot beats of live bands like Liricas Analas, the Bahareebas and others heated up riders and contest visitors to celebrate together until dawn.
Sunny finale of the Wake Surf Festival.
The sun showed up right on time on the last day of the festival with the public paddle contest by Nokia still to come as well as the best trick contest. The interested crowd was wowed once more with a spectacular wake surf show and great surfing skills. Chilling reggae music from the Redbull DJ bus and the Hawaiian atmosphere made it easy to finish the day in a relaxed atmosphere.
The organizers look back once more at a successful Wake Surf Festival weekend with sweet surf action and great sounds and look forward already to the 5. Time in July 2010.
