Brazil’s Peterson Crisanto Wins The 2011 Hurley Pro Junior - USD$25,000 Richer!

Peterson Crisanto (Brazil) today claimed the 2011 6-Star Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Hurley Pro Junior at Burleigh Heads, walking away with a professional junior world-record USD$25,000 winner’s cheque.

Crisanto defeated local favourite Thomas Woods (Burleigh Heads, Qld) in a nail biting affair, which saw Crisanto fall behind early, before retaliating with a blistering 6.50 (out of a possible 10) ride on his last wave, registering a combined two-wave total of 10.00 (out of a possible 20) defeating Woods (9.25) by less than one point.

“I’m absolutely speechless…this is definitely the best day of my life,” said Crisanto.“There are so many good surfers in this event and to win USD$25,000 is unbelievable,” he said.

Woods had the support of the local crowd, with his boardriders club (Burleigh), friends and family lining the natural amphitheatre of Burleigh Heads on Queensland’s Gold Coast and cheering on their competitor.

“Falling at the final hurdle and missing out on the cash is a bit hard to swallow, but to pick up a lot of ratings points is awesome and that will go along way to helping me realise my dream of competing on the ASP World Junior Tour,” said Woods.

“I’d just like to thank all the Burleigh boys for their support and my family for helping me throughout the week,” he said.
