Surfing is one of the oldest practiced sports on the planet! Hawaiians were ripping waves more than 3000 years ago, using boards shaped from three select species of tree. The Hawaiian word for surfing is 'he’e nalu', which translates to 'wave sliding'. In 1823 the missionaries prohibited surfing due to its unrighteous nature - "women and men surfing together without clothes!". Hawaiian legend and swimming gold medalist Duke Kahanamoku, know as the “Father of Surfing”, brought it back to popularity. Nowadays, people from far and wide travel to oceans and beaches to feel the waves under their feet.
