Just turn a wave into a road and a surfboard into a board with wheels and you get "road riding" or - skating! Skating originated from a desire to bring wave riding to the land, and in the 1950's as surfing was becoming a more popular sport, the concept of 'surfing the streets' was born. What began as a sport using a wooden box or plank on a set of wheels, skateboarding was boosted in the 1960's by Dogtown and the Zephyr team to become the sport that we all know today. Surfers had finally found a way to 'surf' 24/7.
